NANNY GESCHICHTE
8 a.m.: Port of Miami, the beautiful skyline is illuminated by the warming morning sun. Our 6 weeks journey through Florida is kicking off today. The camera is rolling: we're shooting the first pictures for "Wildlife Nannies II". Our agenda for today: capturing the fantastic landscape in and around Miami. It's 80 Fahrenheit that's 27 degrees Celsius , the sun is shining, birds are singing. We're cruising the Miami streets and are blown away by the impressive scenery. It's so „CSI Miami".
Around midday we're taking off to the Keys. We spot the first alligator pottering about just next to the road. The staff of Island Dolphin Care and Dolphin Plus gives us a warm welcome. They gave us our own private tour around the facility including petting the dolphins!
We're looking forward to two exciting days of watching and filming children in dolphin therapy. On top of that we will get the chance to follow around Crystal and Art, two dolphin trainers, working with Castaway, a deaf dolphin lady who has lost the ability of echosounding. Therefore she is “blind”, but Art and Crystal help her in dealing with this disability.
What an exciting story!
Hello everyone at home,
we just had two wonderful days at „Island Dolphin Care" and „Dolphin Plus". Deena and Peter Hoagland offered us an acute insight into their therapeutical work with special needs children.
Communication with dolphins takes a lot of patience, love and devotion which Art, the dolphin trainer happily gives. He showed us how much fun it is for children and dolphins alike to play around and work together in the water. Children with special needs who are shy, insecure and anxious when "on land", suddenly have a broad smile on their faces and relax. Some even say the first word in years.
However, one thing is very important for Deena: Dolphins cannot heal humans, they cannot create wonders. But they do provide the children with a new strength and courage and an experience they won't forget.
One protagonist who never left the children's side: Honey, the therapy dog. Deena rescued her from an animal shelter in Miami and gave her a new warm and loving home.
Aloha.
